We also introduced a bit of hardening in the form of disallowing specific UTF8 whitespace characters with zero or near zero width in usernames. These characters could cause some usernames to be confused with each other and hence we decided to specifically filter these.

New features:

Intelligent digests PHP exception error handling. If the mailer crashes, its new exception handler will attempt to take steps to prevent a general cron lock. This can happen on hosts where resource limitations kick in abruptly. While no or not all digests will go out, it should at least not bring down phpBB’s cron system. These errors will be noted in the ACP error log. If digests logging is turned on, you will also see a note in the ACP admin log. Note: this condition is impossible to test so if it appears not to working please let me know and provide any diagnostic information you have.
New remove foreign URLs from digests feature. Enable it in ACP > Extensions > Digests > General settings. Enabling this feature reduces the likelihood that digests will be marked as spam. Links in posts that do not have the board’s domain are replaced with text “Removed foreign link. Click on link for post or topic to see this link.”
New debug mode. Enable it in ACP > Extensions > Digests > General settings. When enabled, key SQL used to generate digests is written to the admin log. This can be useful in seeing which subscribers are actually selected for a given date and time, and exactly which posts are placed in an array for parsing and placing in digests.
